Q. What is Ink-In-Motion?

A. Ink-In-Motion, the first commercialization of E Ink Corporation's award-winning electronic ink technology, is a dynamic new electronic display medium for retail Point-of-Purchase advertising. Ink-In-Motion combines the proven promotional effectiveness of motion with the visual appeal of ink-on-paper, to help retailers and marketers captivate customers and enhance brand equity.

Q. What need does it fill?

A. It's a proven fact that motion drives sales. In a recent study by the Point-of-Purchase Advertising Institute (POPAI) on motion in POP, store managers put 88 percent of motion displays into high traffic areas compared to 47 percent of non-motion displays. POPAI found that motion displays averaged twice the sales gain of static displays (83 percent vs. 39 percent).

Due to technological and economic limitations, motion POP has not been an option for most marketers-until now. Ink-In-Motion combines the ideal ergonomic medium-paper-with the ideal dynamic medium-a computer display-to create the retail dream: a cost-effective, dynamic electronic display as thin, lightweight and flexible as construction paper and as easy to read as newsprint.

Q. What are the benefits for POP display makers?

A. Ink-In-Motion makes design proposals stand out
For POP display designers, the account-exclusivity offered by Ink-In-Motion means their design proposals will clearly position them ahead of the cardboard/wire/plastic pack.

Ink-In-Motion is easy to design in and easy to integrate
Ink-In-Motion provides a thin, lightweight, flexible motion display that is easy to assemble; and Ink-In-Motion's low power consumption means the dynamic imaging will last for the life of the display.

Q. How does Ink-In-Motion work?

A. Ink-In-Motion utilizes E Ink Corporation's revolutionary electronic ink to achieve dynamic imaging on a paper-thin display. The ink is printed on a thin electronic backplane. A small, battery-powered controller drives tiny amounts of current through the backplane, triggering the image change.

Q. How can Ink-In-Motion be used?

A. Ink-In-Motion is designed for easy integration into POP displays. The thin, flexible, lightweight display sheets fasten easily to most surfaces. The separate, small, candy-bar-sized controllers place the electronics and batteries out of sight.

Marketers we surveyed said they want to use Ink-In-Motion to call attention to new item introductions, highlight feature enhancements, and increase the sell-through on seasonal displays. They are also anxious to utilize Ink-In-Motion's thin form factor and long battery life to add dynamic imaging to places like shelf edges and posters¡¦places where existing electronic displays don't integrate easily.

NeoLux supplies Ink-In-Motion with various conventional displays like stand, poster, desktop, hanger, etc.

Q. What are the advantages of Ink-In-Motion versus other types of in-store displays such as lenticular, electroluminescent and electrochromic displays?

A. Ink-In-Motion is more viewer-friendly than lenticular, because it doesn't confuse or annoy the viewer with "in-between" images or require a person to change their viewing angle to see an image. In addition, Ink-In-Motion images are simpler to design than complex multi-image lenticular animations.

Ink-In-Motion is also easier to see than electroluminescent (EL), in most retail environments. EL is an emissive technology that works well in low-light settings such as bars and some restaurants, but it can't compete with normal ambient retail lighting, where it looks pale and washed-out. By contrast, Ink-In-Motion is reflective, and therefore looks brighter in most retail environments.

In addition, Ink-In-Motion offers brighter whites than electrochromics, for more brilliant displays and requires less power, which makes for a longer display life.

Q. How large is an average Ink-In-Motion display? How thick are the displays?

A. Ink-In-Motion displays can be as small as a postage stamp and as large as two sheets of notebook paper. They are 0.03 inches thin (0.8 millimeters) and are available in a variety of shapes and sizes.
